Survey Area
You find a high point in your current hex, and search around in all directions. This takes an hour, not just for the search but also to locate a vantage point and reach it. Typically, this is done as part of Travelling Overland.
Roll+FOR. If more than one person is taking this activity, each character rolls, and the highest degree of success is used.
- Complete Success: You spot multiple interesting things. If one character is rolling, choose two Good Things from the list below. If more than one character rolled, each may select one Good Thing if their roll was a partial success or better.
- Success: You spot something of interest. Choose a Good Thing from the list below.
- Partial Success: You spot something of interest. Choose a Good Thing and a Bad Thing from the list below.
- Failure: You don't spot anything of interest.
- Complete Failure: Your eyes deceive you. Choose a Mistake from the list below.
Good Things
- You spot a landmark, and take a good bearing on it. Next time you Travel Overland, if the time required is more than two hours, reduce that time by one hour.
- You spot another party moving towards your position. You cannot be Surprised by that party while you are in this hex.
- You spot a ruined building.
- You spot a source of food. Each party member need not consume a ration next time they Eat A Meal.
- You spot a really good campsite. Next time your party Takes a Long Rest, each party member gets one additional hour to spend on Rest activities.
- You spot a small settlement within the hex. They might even be friendly.
- You spot a cave. At the very least, it will provide cover as though the party had a Campaign Tent.
- You spot a hazard of some sort. Each party member gains forward favour to any roll made to deal with the hazard.
