Search
You search an area to find something that is concealed. This might be a trap, a hidden door, or a concealed character. You need to know exactly what you are looking for, unless you know that something is hidden in the area (such as by Performing an Investigation). It takes one minute to complete a search.
Roll+FOR. Searching a broad area or a complex mechanism may increase the time required or apply slight to the Roll.
- Complete Success: You find exactly what you were looking for, as well as something else you didn't expect. Select a Good Thing from the list below.
- Success: You find what you were looking for, provided it is present within the area.
- Partial Success: You find what you were looking for, but the effort or the discovery comes at a cost. Select a Bad Thing from the list below.
- Failure: You fail to find what you were looking for.
- Complete Failure: You are distracted or over-confident. You fail to find what you were looking for, and you must select a Bad Thing from the list below.
Good Things
- You notice a detail about the thing you found that grants you favour on your next interaction with that thing.
- Roll 3d6. You find that many copper pennies, or a minor useful item worth a like amount.
- You stumble upon the item you are looking for almost instantly. The activity takes effectively no time.
Bad Things
- You accidentally trigger a trap or alert a foe to your presence.
- You are so focused on your search that you miss something else obvious; you take slight on your next roll, no matter what it was.
- You took longer than expected to complete the search. It takes you twice as long to search the area as you expected.
- You thought you found what you were looking for, but you did not. This overrides a partial success, or complicates a complete failure.
