Impersonate Another

You use makeup, clothing, and mimicry to adopt the identity of another individual or a specific class of person.

The Prep: This activity requires 10 minutes of preparation with access to a disguise kit or appropriate wardrobe. You do not roll at this time; the roll is deferred until you interact with someone.

The Roll: When you first interact with someone you are trying to fool, or when someone becomes suspicious of your behaviour, you must roll+CHA. You gain favour on the roll if the person you are trying to fool has never met the person you are impersonating, but suffer slight if they are extremely close to them (such as a spouse or a life-long confidant; the Director is advised to err on your side if in doubt). If you are not actively trying to fool a person, and they have no reason to interact with your persona, you don't need to roll.

  • Complete Success: Your performance is flawless. You gain favour on all social Rolls made while maintaining this identity, if the impersonation would reasonably help. Describe a specific mannerism or detail you captured perfectly.
  • Success: You successfully pass as the target persona. Describe one reason why the person you are talking to is convinced.
  • Partial Success: You pass for now, but the subject thinks that something is “off.” You must choose one Bad Thing from the list below.
  • Failure: The disguise fails to hold up to scrutiny. Your true identity is not necessarily revealed, but they know you are an impostor.
  • Complete Failure: Your disguise is seen through immediately. Your true identity is recognized.

Bad Things

  • Your disguise is uncomfortable and distracting; you suffer slight to Foresight Rolls to notice things while wearing it.
  • You accidentally insulted the person you are talking to by breaking a social protocol. Until the end of the current interaction, you suffer slight on any further rolls+CHA you make against that person.
  • You missed a detail (a birthmark, an accent or a quirk); after the interaction, the subject will realize that you were an imposter.
