Hold Out

You carefully conceal a small object—such as a dagger, a pouch of coins, or a specialized tool—somewhere on your body or within your clothing to avoid detection during a physical search.

The Prep: This activity takes 1 minute of uninterrupted effort to secure the item. Once prepared, you do not roll immediately; the roll is deferred until you are searched.

The Roll: When a foe or authority figure performs a physical search of your person, you must roll+AGI as a free action. You make this roll once for each item you have attempted to conceal.

  • Complete Success: The item is not found. Choose one Good Thing from the list below.
  • Success: The searcher fails to find the hidden item.
  • Partial Success: The searcher misses the item, but you are left looking suspicious or uncomfortable. Choose one Bad Thing.
  • Failure: The searcher finds the item immediately.
  • Complete Failure: The item is found, and your attempt to hide it was so clumsy that the searcher is alerted to the possibility of other hidden items. All further rolls to conceal items on your person suffer slight for the next hour.

Good Things

  • The searcher is convinced of your innocence and grants you favour on your next social roll against them.
  • You managed to pickpocket something small from the searcher while they were distracted.
  • Not only does the searcher miss the item, but you gain favour on your next roll made to use the item—even an attack!

Bad Things

  • The searcher takes a liking to a different, non-hidden item of yours and “confiscates” it.
  • The search takes twice as long, making you late for your next appointment.
  • You have to destroy a piece of your clothing to keep the item hidden.
