This is not merely a straightforward copying; you must translate the spell into a formula that properly matches your specific means of casting. This activity takes one hour per level of the target spell. If you are Transcribing from a spell scroll, the process drains the magic from the scroll, consuming it.

• Complete Success: You transcribe the spell with ease. Choose a Good Thing from the list below.
• Success: You transcribe the spell correctly.
• Partial Success: There were difficulties with copying this spell. You succeeded, but must choose a Bad Thing from the list below.
• Failure: You made an error, and wasted your time. Half the time needed to Transcribe the Spell, rounded up, was wasted before you discovered your error.
• Complete Failure: This spell relies on techniques that you do not yet understand. You must Gain a Level before you can attempt to Transcribe this Spell again.

• You managed to save some time in the process. If the spell is Level 3 or higher, reduce the time needed to Transcribe it by one hour.
• If you were Transcribing from a scroll, that scroll is not consumed in the process of Transcription.
• The source of this spell works their magic in a manner similar to yourself. You gain favour on Transcribing the next Spell from this source.

• You needed rare materials, or singificant research, to complete the transcription. You must spend one silver penny per level of the spell.
• You spilled ink on the Grimoire from which you were copying. One spell that you have not transcribed is ruined. Its owner may be upset.
• If transcribing from a scroll, you accidentally trigger the magic bound in the scroll, and it manifests wildly. Roll 1d8 per level of the spell. You suffer Vital damage equal to the amount rolled.
