Formulate a Combination Spell

You spend some time creating a new, more powerful spell. Choose two spells from your Grimoire, whose levels added together cannot be greater than eight. The spells must have the same Targets parameter. Both must either require a spellcasting roll, or require the target to Avoid Danger. Create a new spell that has the following properties:

  • Its Level will be the sum of the original spells' levels, plus one.
  • Its Casting Time, Range and Duration will be the longer of each from the two original spells.
  • Its effects will be all the effects of both spells. The Director may have some input on this; work with them on a solution.
  • It will have only Good Things or Bad Things that both spells had in common, and it is the Director that determines whether or not they are close enough to be considered common.

You must then spend time researching the new spell. Take a four-hour Down-Time activity, and roll+EDU.

  • Complete Success: You gain four Success Points towards your new spell.
  • Success: You gain three Success Points towards your new spell.
  • Partial Success: You gain two Success Points towards your new spell.
  • Failure: You gain one Success Point towards your new spell.
  • Complete Failure: You gain no Success Points towards your new spell.

When you have accumulated Success Points equal to five times the level of the spell, your new spell is complete, and you have transcribed it into your Grimoire. You may now Prepare it as normal.
