Craft an Item
You spend time at a workbench or forge creating equipment. Each attempt costs 1 copper penny in raw materials. To complete an item, you must accumulate work product equal to the item's total price in copper pennies.

**Roll+EDU** or **Roll+DEX**, whichever is //worse//.

 * **Complete Success**: You make excellent progress. You produce 5 copper pennies worth of work product.
 * **Success**: You produce 3 copper pennies worth of work product.
 * **Partial Success**: You produce 1 copper penny worth of work product.
 * **Failure**: You make no progress on the item this hour. Your one copper penny investment is wasted, and you produce 0 work product.
 * **Complete Failure**: You make a serious error. You produce 0 work product, wasting your copper penny investment, and you must choose one Bad Thing from the list below.

**Downtime Bonus:** If you are performing this activity as part of your downtime while in a friendly community with access to proper tools, the amount of work product produced is //doubled//.

**Mint Condition**: If you score a complete success at any point in the crafting process, you may choose to grant the item the ironbound:conditions:Mint condition. You cannot grant the item Mint condition if you never scored a complete success; the item looks amateurish.

Bad Things
 * You sustain a minor injury; you suffer slight to your next physical roll.
 * You wasted some of the raw materials. Roll 3d6; you must pay that many copper pennies in raw materials before you can resume work.
 * Your tools are damaged and require 10 copper pennies to repair before you can Craft again.
 * You make a loud mistake, attracting unwanted attention or noise complaints.
 * You marred the item in a way that cannot be concealed or repaired The item that you are crafting can never become Mint, even if you roll a subsequent complete success. You can only select this option once.

Crafting Raw Materials
One does not merely put copper coins into the forge, and pull out a sword. Your character must have acquired raw materials to work from. This is handled in an abstract fashion; one copper coin worth of raw materials could be wood, metals, coal, pottery, cloth, glue, moss, or duck feathers. You can simply buy raw materials when you visit a friendly community, or you can Craft your own.

When you have discovered an unclaimed source of raw materials, you can extract raw materials from the site for crafting purposes. The Director will inform you if the source is appropriate to the item you wish to craft. For example, if you are in a forest, with good-quality trees, it would be appropriate to find what you need to craft a bow, staff, or even a suit of armour, but crafting a sword would probably be out of the question.

Crafting raw materials from natural source works in the same manner as crafting any other object, save that you obviously do not need to invest the copper penny in raw materials, and raw materials can never be Mint condition.

Salvaging
An object can be treated as a source of raw materials. The object's condition determines the amount of return.
 * An item that is ironbound:conditions:Destroyed will return 5% of its value.
 * An item that is ironbound:conditions:Damaged will return 10% of its value.
 * An item that is ironbound:conditions:Broken will return 20% of its value.
 * An item that is ironbound:conditions:Dented will return 30% of its value.
 * An item that is intact (with no damage conditions) will return 40% of its value.
 * An item that is in mint condition---having never been used or damaged---will return 50% of its value, but you would probably be further ahead simply selling it and purchasing raw materials directly.

Crafting raw materials from a salvaged object works in the same manner as crafting raw materials from a natural source, with the exception that the value gained is deducted from the remaining value of the salvaged item, and the maximum that can be gained from one Crafting attempt cannot exceed the remaining value of the salvaged item.

Once an object has been marked for salvage, it is considered Destroyed for any other game purposes. Once the object's entire value has been recovered, it is removed entirely from the game.
