Equipment
Every adventurer needs the tools to survive and thrive. In this chapter, we delve into the practicalities of preparing for your journey in Unbound Tales. Here, you'll learn about the currencies of the realm, the essentials that make up an adventurer's kit, and the various types of armor and weaponry at your disposal. We'll explore how your choices of equipment can shape your character's playstyle, from the nimble rogue with a trusty dagger to the stalwart defender clad in gleaming plate armor. This chapter equips you not just with the physical tools you'll need, but also with the knowledge to make informed decisions that will define your character's path to legend.
Equipment Slots
To keep things simple, characters in Unbound Tales have a limited number of equipment slots to manage their gear. Besides the armour they wear and items held in hand, each character has five slots to carry additional gear. This encourages players to think strategically about what they carry and prioritize essential items. Equipment Kits, which are pre-packaged sets of gear tailored to specific roles or situations, can help players efficiently make use of their limited slots.
Load
Some items, such as heavy armours, shields, and the largest weapons, have a Load value that represents their weight and bulk. A character's total Load—the sum of all Load values for their equipped items—should not exceed their Body attribute. For every point of Load that a character is carrying over their Body, they lose one point of speed in all modes, and suffer a -2 penalty to all skill checks.
However, characters with a Body attribute of -1 are not considered overloaded when their total Load is 0.
Starting Equipment
Every character will start with 100 silver pennies and an Adventurer's Kit. Some characters may start with additional equipment, due to their back-stories. Typically, this will take the form of additional coins.
