Coins
The coinage in the Realms is based on the standard coins of the fallen Empire of Aranor. The Empire used three metals for their coins: copper, silver and gold. They also had standard weights for two types of coins, the penny and the crown. The crown held ten times as much metal as the penny, by weight, and were three times as thick.
Despite the fact that the Empire of Aranor is long fallen, this standard coinage is still frequently used among the Realms that it once encompassed, and even into the Southern Expanse.

Three copper pennies will pay for a day's meals at an alehouse or publican's, and two silver pennies will pay a week's rent on a single room. Ten copper pennies is a decent day's unskilled labour; skilled labour commands at least fifteen pennies for the day, and frequently more.
Crowns are normally only used by the noble houses and the Guilds, whereas pennies are used by anybody. Very rarely will a commoner have any crowns; even copper crowns are rarely carried by a commoner. Gold crowns are normally only used for large transfers of wealth, such as between two Guilds, or a Guild and a noble house. Rarely will anybody just carry a golden crown, unless they are a noble who is off to make a fairly large purchase.
Every character starts with 100 silver pennies. Some Back-Stories will increase this, typically by 25sp.
