Track a Creature
Time Required: Special
Skill: Survival (Trained)
You can attempt to follow a creature's tracks. This is a two-step process.
First, you must Search for the creature's tracks. The TN to spot the tracks is 10, but if the creature was taking pains to cover its tracks, add its total Stealth skill bonus to this. If you fail in this attempt, you cannot track the creature.
Once you find the creature's tracks, you may attempt to follow them. Make a Survival skill check against a TN of 10. Again, if the creature was taking pains to conceal its tracks, add its total Stealth skill bonus to this TN. On a success, you may track the creature for a distance equal to half a kilometer times your speed. At the end of this distance, you must roll Survival again to continue tracking. This movement is considered to be Travel Overland at half your speed.
If you lose the track, you may attempt to Search for the tracks again.
A Ranger who successfully Tracks a Creature may use their Hunter's Mark on that creature, even outside of encounters and without being able to see the creature.
Sebastian has betrayed the party and fled; Kioni kneels down and examines the grass for his tracks. Her Perception check is high enough to spot Sebastian's tracks, as he wasn't trying to conceal them. She then must roll Survival to track him. Again, she gets a success, and can track him for three kilometers. But the party arrives at a house before the end of that three-kilometer stretch. Being a Ranger, Kioni immediately uses her Hunter's Mark on the tracks, giving her an advantage when they reach Sebastian.
