Make an Impression

You can use Deception, Diplomacy, Intimidation or Performance and spend one minute attempting to shift the temporary Affinity of a subject. The Target Number for this attempt is determined by the subject's current Affinity. If you are using Diplomacy or Performance, you may add any Prestige that applies.
- Success: The subject's temporary Affinity is adjusted one step. If you used Intimidation, the subject's temporary Affinity becomes Helpful.
- Failure: The subject is not impressed. If you have any appropriate Prestige, you may expend one point of that Prestige to convert this to a success.
When using this action, make your skill check, determine the result, and then decide how to role-play it!
Special: If you used Intimidation to Make an Impression, then as soon as you are out of sight, the subject's permanent Affinity worsens one step.
Equipment
No special equipment is required to Make an Impression. However, if you are using Diplomacy in the attempt, you may expend Luxury Items, to a maximum of 15sp, to improve your chances. The amount of gift items you spread out determines the bonus you receive for doing such, as described below.

The merchant is unwilling to sell Kioni ammunition, due to his prejudice against the Aruna. Sir Roland decides to explain to the merchant that said prejudice is not in his best interest, and rolls Intimidation. This is a third-party Affinity adjustment, so he suffers slight on the attempt, but still manages to roll a success. Ethan, Sir Roland's player, makes a point of describing how Sir Roland shakes his helbarde under the merchant's nose and says, “Mr. Helbarde doesn't like racists.”
Kioni gets her ammunition, as the merchant is now Helpful. But as soon as the party is out of sight, the merchant now has a strong Dislike of Sir Roland as well.
