Keep a Watch
Time Required: 1 hour
Skill: Perception (Untrained)
When the party takes a rest—short or long—it is wise for people to keep an eye open for possible trouble. The Director should request a Perception skill check from you, even if nothing is about to attack the party. This Perception check is made against any attacker's Stealth skill, and the Director should make this skill check in secret.
- Success: If there is something out there, you've spotted it. Neither side has Surprise.
- Failure: You are caught looking the other way, and any ambusher will have Surprise against you.
Keeping a Watch actually covers a three-hour period; the one hour simply represents that time spent on watch duties, rather than other tasks, over that three-hour time period.
The Director has secretly determined that the wolf pack will attack the party's camp during Aria's watch. Each party member who Kept a Watch has made their Perception check, and Aria's was an 18. The Director rolls the wolves' Stealth check, and gets a 15. Aria spots the approaching wolves, and begins waking her team.
