Forge a Document
Time Required: 1 hour
Skill: Crafting or Deception
Requires: A Forgery Kit or Diplomat's Kit
You can attempt to create a false document. Roll the lower of your Craft and Deception skills. The value that you roll becomes the TN for others to determine that the document is, in fact, a forgery.
Another character who wishes to verify the forged document must take a complex action to examine the document. They then roll an appropriate skill (Lore and Society are good examples) vs. the established TN for the document.
Equipment
Both the Diplomat's Kit and the Forger's Kit contain the materials needed to create documents. However, the Diplomat's Kit is not optimized for forgery. You must have an appropriate kit to even attempt this action, but if you are using a Diplomat's Kit, you suffer slight to the attempt. Creating a forgery consumes 5sp of materials from the kit.
The fact that nobody in their party is any good at Deception is starting to be a real problem, and Aurelia swears she'll learn something about it at some point. Regardless, the document they'd created, proving that they had an audience with the Baron, had a roll of 7 total.
Luckily, the guard they have to present it to is not well educated. Unfortunately for them, he rolls a 9, and sees through the forgery. As the guard summons reinforcements, the party realizes that violence is now their only option…
