Charge

Time Required: 3 to 6 seconds

You run directly at a foe, aiming to strike them with a melee attack. This is the safest way to approach a foe that has Reach.

Choose a foe, and move a distance towards that target equal to your speed times two less than the number of seconds spent on this action, as described in the table below.

You must move in a straight line towards your target, and end your movement in the square adjacent to your target that was closest to your starting position. Your target may not Counterattack you during this movement (though any other foe you pass might still be able to do so).

When you complete this movement, make a melee basic attack against that foe as part of this action. If this attack is a hit, you inflict +1[W] damage.

You cannot Charge if you were Prone at the start of your turn, even if you have a feature that allows you to stand up as a Free Action.

As the combat begins, Sir Roland is twelve meters away from a Giant Spider. With his Speed of 6, he would need to Run to close on the spider. Since the spider has Threatening Reach, Sir Roland would take a Counterattack in the process. So he elects to Charge!

Charging as a four-second action gives him the twelve meters of movement he needs. When he completes his charge, he makes a mighty swing with his Langsax, striking Agility 10…and misses. Luckily, he has two seconds left in his turn to try something else…
