Balance
Time Required: Simple Action.
Skill: Acrobatics (Untrained).
You move up to half your Speed (rounded down) across a surface that is less than 30cm in width. This movement does not count towards, and is in addition to, your free movement in the turn. You must make an Acrobatics check against a TN determined by the width of the surface. The table below gives these values.
Width | TN |
---|---|
16-30cm | 12 |
5-15cm | 15 |
Less than 5cm | 18 |
Surface is unstable | +3 |
- Success: You cross the surface, covering a distance of up to half your Speed. If you do not make it all the way across, you may need to take this action again.
- Failure: You make no progress, being forced to adjust your balance again. You must immediately make a second Acrobatics check against the same TN. If you fail the second check, you fall off the surface.
Having thrown a rope across a twenty-meter-deep chasm and drawn it taut, Eldrin attempts to walk across it to the other side. (His companions think that this is not a wise move, but he ignores them.) Being less than 5cm in width, his rope inflicts a TN of 18, though at least it is taut enough not to count as an unstable surface. However, Eldrin's Acrobatics is only a +2. He rolls a total of 21, getting two meters across, but there's another two meters to cross. He then rolls a 9, and fails to make any further progress. Worse, he must immediately roll again, and this time, he gets a 7. He plummets into the chasm…
