Skill Traits

Skill Traits represent specialised training, innate aptitude, or focused experience in a particular area of expertise. While skills provide a broad framework for what a character can do, Skill Traits allow a character to refine their abilities, gaining advantages in specific situations, tasks, or subfields.

  • Characters may select Skill Traits to:
  • Enhance a particular skill beyond standard training;
  • Reflect focused study, practice, or personal talent;
  • Gain mechanical bonuses in situations closely related to their chosen field.

Skill Traits are tied to the skill they augment and can interact with other game mechanics, including favour and slight, degrees of success, and certain actions. Multiple Skill Traits can be chosen for a single skill, but each must focus on a distinct aspect or application of that skill, preventing overlap and encouraging deliberate specialisation.

By using Skill Traits, designers and players can create characters who are not only competent in their skills but have distinctive strengths and areas of expertise, adding depth and flavour to gameplay without overcomplicating the core skill system.
