Pummel

Type: Attack
Time Required: 3 seconds
Skill Check: Brawling

You attack a foe with a fist, foot, head butt, or other natural weapon. The foe must be within your reach. Make a Brawling skill check.

  • Complete Success: You score a Critical Hit, inflicting damage equal to your Body attribute modifier times five (minimum five points).
  • Success: You score a Solid Hit, inflicting damage equal to your Body attribute modifier times three (minimum three points).
  • Partial Success: You score a Hit, inflicting damage equal to your Body attribute modifier times two (minimum two points).
  • Failure: You score a Glancing Blow, inflicting damage equal to your Body attribute modifier (minimum one point). This damage can only apply to stamina; if the target has no stamina remaining, excess damage is not transferred to health.
  • Complete Failure: You Miss the target entirely, doing no damage.

Special Conditions

A target's Armour Rating is subtracted from your Brawling skill check.

A target wearing Medium or Heavy Armour reduces the minimum damage inflicted to zero for all degrees of success.

If the foe you are attacking has a weapon or shield, attempting to Pummel them provokes a Counterattack.

Design Notes: It is assumed that the attacker will make three or four individual attempts to strike his target, but that only one will be good enough to count as an actual Pummel.
