Familiar

Requires: Magician, Oracle, Scion, Spirit Caller or Witch background.

You have gained the service of a minor spirit. This spirit manifests as an animal, at least two Scales smaller than yourself. You can choose the form in which the spirit manifests. Once chosen, the form of the familiar cannot be changed. Based on that form, choose one of the following:

  • A Walking Speed of 4, or
  • A Flying Speed of 3 and a Walking Speed of 2.

Your familiar uses your spellcasting skill modifier in place of any actual skill values. It is considered Trained in Stealth and Perception; it is considered Untrained in all other skills, and suffers slight to their skill checks. It uses your spellcasting skill as its defences, but gains a +2 to its Reflex defence.

Your familiar does not have independent health. If the familiar is struck for damage, you take the damage in its place, though only to Stamina. If all of your Stamina is depleted, or if you fall unconscious, your familiar will vanish. If your familiar has vanished, you must perform a one-minute ritual to summon them again.

You can choose to see through your familiar's senses in place of your own. It takes one second to switch from your own senses to the familiar's, or back to your own.

Whenever you Run, Step or Walk, your familiar takes the same action as a free action. If you wish to have your familiar take any other actions, you must spend the time from your turn to allow it to do so.

If your familiar starts its movement in the same square as you, you may choose to have it end its movement in the same square as you, disregarding its actual Speed. This represents your familiar riding on you. When your familiar is moving in this fashion, its movement does not provoke a Counterattack.
