Channeling Magic
Blocks: Empowered Magic, Scion Magic, Studied Magic
You have made a pact with a powerful magical being—willingly or not. Either way, you can tap upon that being's power and direct it yourself. Choose one of the following Disciplines.
Discipline | Spellcasting Skill |
---|---|
Arcane | Arcane Spellcasting |
Divine | Divine Spellcasting |
Primal | Primal Spellcasting |
Occult | Occult Spellcasting |
Your choice of Discipline should relate to the creature with which you have made a pact. Arcane magic is typical of the ancient Jotun and the powerful Djinn. Divine magic often comes from deities or devils, though most deities prefer to work with Divine Magic. Primal magic is commonly received from natural spirits, including the mighty dragon spirits. And Occult magic is typical of the Fae, or of spirits other than natural spirits. Regardless of the source of your power, your casting attribute is Charisma.
You gain one training rank in the appropriate Spellcasting skill. Choose two Power 1 spells from your chosen Discipline, and add them to your list of spells known.
You gain one additional spell every time you increase your training ranks in your Spellcasting skill. The new spell must be chosen from your chosen Discipline, and cannot have a Power higher than your current ranks in your Spellcasting skill (after the upgrade).
You gain a pool of mana used to cast your spells. The cost in mana to cast a spell is equal to the Power of that spell, and is spent regardless of success or failure of casting the spell. Your pool of available mana is equal to twice your level plus your Charisma modifier. You recover all expended mana when you Take a Long Rest.
Special: If you gained this trait by means of selecting the Oracle or Witch background, your Discipline will be chosen when you selected the background. If you gained this trait by means of selecting the Spirit Caller background, you must select the Occult Discipline.
