Recall Information

You attempt to recall some piece of information appropriate to the skill. The table below gives a good range of Target Numbers for this sort of skill check.

The knowledge is uncommon	16
The knowledge is rare	20
The knowledge is exotic	24
The knowledge is being suppressed	+4
You have access to a library or other font of information	-6†
The knowledge concerns something about which you have direct, first-hand experience	-3

†It will take you one hour to take advantage of a library.

Success: You recall the information in question.
Failure: You cannot recall the information. You may try again, unless either of the dice rolled came up showing a one. In that event, you cannot try again until you have completed a Long Rest.

Skills appropriate for Recalling Knowledge include Crafting, Lore, Medicine, Society and Survival. If the Director never came up with information on the subject you request, don't be surprised if they ask you to make it up on the spot!
