Magic

In Legacy, magic is divided into four Disciplines, each representing a different origin and philosophy of power. The Arcane is the study of magical principles themselves: the movement of energy, the shifting of dimensions, the bending of space and time, and the manipulation of magic as a force. The Divine is power granted by higher beings—gods, saints, or celestial forces–channelled through faith, devotion, or sacred duty. The Occult is secret and hidden power, dealing in mysteries, curses, forbidden knowledge, and the dangerous truths that dwell in shadows. The Primal is the raw magic of the world itself, bound to nature, the elements, and the living essence of creation.

Gaining access to these powers is not uniform; it depends on the path a character takes. Some pursue magic through study, mastering formulae, invocations, and symbols over years of disciplined practice. Others are born magical, carrying within themselves an innate spark that resonates with one of the four disciplines. Some strike pacts with beings of great power—gods, devils, fae, or stranger entities—trading loyalty or service for supernatural gifts. A rare few acquire magic by absorption, whether intentionally or by accident: from relics, cursed places, divine fonts, or the remnants of fallen powers. The method of gaining magic can be as defining as the discipline itself, shaping not only what spells one can cast but also how those spells manifest.

Every spellcaster in Legacy exists at the crossroads of Discipline and method. A scholar of the Arcane who dedicates their life to study becomes a precise manipulator of energy and space, while one born to Primal magic commands elemental forces by instinct. A faithful devotee who makes a pact with a forgotten deity might channel Divine miracles or Occult rites, while a wanderer who absorbs a fragment of magic may find their abilities wild and unpredictable. These combinations define the wide variety of magic-users in the world, ensuring that no two are ever quite alike.
