Sage
The Sage has dedicated their life to the pursuit of knowledge, often at the cost of their own safety or comfort. These individuals are scholars, historians, researchers, or those who seek to unravel the deepest mysteries of the world. Their studies might focus on anything from arcane lore to ancient history, from exotic languages to the anatomy of mythical creatures. Their lives have often been spent pouring over dusty tomes, researching forgotten rituals, or transcribing long-lost manuscripts. While this deep intellectual pursuit has honed their mind, it often leaves them unprepared for the more dangerous aspects of the world.
Despite their intellectual prowess, many Sages feel a calling beyond the confines of libraries or private study rooms. The world is filled with untold mysteries, and a Sage's curiosity is not easily quelled. The endless pursuit of knowledge cannot be fully satisfied through books alone, and many Sages choose the path of adventure in order to seek firsthand experience. The ruins of ancient civilizations, the hidden temples of forgotten gods, and the wilds filled with strange beasts all beckon to the Sage, offering the chance to uncover lost knowledge that cannot be found in any text. Their need to understand drives them into these perilous places, where they risk life and limb for the opportunity to bring back the secrets of the past.
Some Sages are also motivated by a deep-seated sense of responsibility. They may have uncovered something that could change the world, either for good or ill, and feel it is their duty to protect or share this knowledge. In such cases, the pursuit of wisdom becomes a race against time, and the Sage is thrust into dangerous situations where they must guard or recover ancient artifacts, texts, or even the very knowledge that could alter the balance of power. Others may be driven by personal ambition, seeking to prove themselves as the most knowledgeable and powerful in their field, and willing to venture into dangerous lands to gain access to knowledge that will cement their place in history.
While the life of an adventuring Sage is fraught with risk, it is a calling that many cannot resist. The pursuit of knowledge is not just an academic exercise but a lifelong obsession that pushes them into the unknown. They may face danger at every turn, but they do so because they know that the greatest discoveries often come at the greatest costs. For a Sage, the rewards of uncovering the secrets of the world are worth any price, whether it is the danger of ancient curses, the fury of unknown creatures, or the chaos of battling those who would use their knowledge for dark purposes.
