Goblins

Goblins are quick of body and quicker of thought, driven by impulses that others often struggle to understand. Where Dwarves plan carefully and Elves weigh their choices, Goblins leap—and more often than not, they land on their feet. Agility is their hallmark, a restless energy that fuels their movements and their lives. They dart through forests, cities, and caverns alike with the same ease, always on the move, always looking for the next opportunity.

This impulsiveness makes Goblins both fascinating and unsettling to their neighbors. To many, they seem unreliable or even reckless, rushing headlong into risks that others would avoid. Yet within that same unpredictability lies a spark of brilliance. Goblins see connections that others miss, solve problems in ways no one expects, and adapt so quickly that the line between cunning and instinct is blurred. Their intellect is not the patient sort but the flash of inspiration—the clever trick, the improvised solution, the sudden stroke of insight that turns disaster into triumph.

Dexterity complements their cunning. Goblins are deft with tools, nimble with their hands, and quick in a fight. Whether working with scraps to cobble together something new or slipping unseen through a crowded street, they make use of every advantage their quickness offers. While they rarely produce works of lasting craftsmanship like Dwarves or intricate marvels like Gnomes, they excel at improvisation, at creating something useful out of whatever happens to be at hand.

Because of their impulsive natures, Goblins are often treated with suspicion by their neighbours. Yet this very trait makes them invaluable in moments when hesitation would mean failure. They are survivors, opportunists, and innovators, thriving in the gaps between more deliberate peoples. To travel with a Goblin is to accept a certain amount of chaos—but also to gain a companion who can see a way forward when all others are trapped.

Attributes

When you select Goblin as your ancestry, increase your Agility score by three, your Intellect score by two and your Dexterity score by one.

Features

Size: Goblins are fairly small compared to humans, averaging 110cm in height and weighing around 40 kilograms. They are Scale -1 creatures. This impacts them in a number of ways:

  • Due to their smaller muscles, Goblins suffer a -1 penalty to Athletics skill checks.
  • Their smaller frame provides a Goblin with a +1 bonus to Reflex defence and a +2 bonus to Stealth.
  • Goblins need much less material to cover themselves, so they pay half as much for armour.

Walking Speed: 5 meters. A Goblin's lanky limbs give it surprising speed and reach.

Stamina: Goblins begin play with 12 Stamina, plus an amount equal to their Agility bonus. Dodging attacks is second nature to a Goblin.

Recovery Dice: Goblins begin play with two six-sided (2d6) Recovery dice.

Resourceful: Goblins have an innate knack for finding deals and crafting makeshift solutions. When they Craft an Item, they pay only one-quarter the cost of the item in raw materials, instead of one-third. Once per day, a Goblin can take a four-second action to rummage through their possessions and pull out any toolkit with exactly one use remaining. Once you use this ability, you cannot use it again until the next time you take Down-Time in a friendly community.

Skill Training: Choose three of the following skills: Blades, Crafting, Unbalanced Weapons, Deception, Investigation, Perception, Sleight of Hand, Society, Stealth. You receive one training rank in each of the selected skills.

Traits

Goblins can always select the following traits as Apprentice-tier traits.

Keen Senses
Lucky
Pyromaniac
Sneaky
Tough
