Dwarves

Dwarves are a fascinating race, renowned throughout the lands for their exceptional patience, unwavering resilience, and formidable physical power. Their very presence exudes an aura of strength and stability, like the mountains they so often call home.

However, this steadfast nature comes at a cost. Dwarves are not known for their flexibility, both physically and metaphorically. They are creatures of habit and tradition, slow to adapt to change, and somewhat lacking in the adaptability that other races possess. This inflexibility can sometimes make them appear stubborn or resistant to new ideas.

Another notable trait of Dwarves is their physical nearsightedness. While their keen eyes can spot the smallest detail at close range – essential for the intricate craftsmanship they are known for – they struggle to see at a distance. This significantly impacts their ability to effectively use ranged weapons like bows and slings, making them less proficient in ranged combat than other races.

Despite these limitations, Dwarves remain a force to be reckoned with. Their strengths far outweigh their weaknesses, and their contributions to the world are undeniable. Whether it be their masterful craftsmanship, their unyielding determination, or their steadfast loyalty, Dwarves have earned their place as one of the most respected and admired races.

Features

Size: Adult Dwarves stand between 120 and 150cm in height, somewhat shorter than most Humans, but weigh between 80kg and 110kg. They are considered Scale 0 creatures.

Walking Speed: 4 meters. However, Dwarves have powerful load-bearing frames, and are able to power through many situations that would slow a less robust person. If they would lose Walking Speed due to any reason, they gain a +1 bonus to their Walking Speed before reductions are considered.

Stamina: Dwarves begin play with 30 Stamina, plus an amount equal to their Strength bonus.

Recovery Dice: Dwarves begin play with two ten-sided (2d10) Recovery dice.

Steady Stance: Dwarves gain a +2 bonus to their passive defences when Pushed, Pulled or Tripped. Their natural stability and low center of gravity make them incredibly hard to knock off their feet.

Hardy Resilience: Dwarves gain Poison Resistance 1. (Reduce any damage that they take due to poisons by one point for each die of damage rolled.) Their natural fortitude and time-hardened constitutions allow them to shake off toxins better than most.

Skill Training: Choose two of the following skills: Athletics, Blunt Weapons, Crafting, History, Polearms, Unarmed Combat, Unbalanced Weapons. You gain one skill rank in each of the two chosen skills.
