Spellcaster

Magic can grant its user remarkable tactical flexibility, being used to attack enemies, protect or support allies, or alter the battlefield. A group of foes that includes a spellcaster among their numbers is a significant threat. However, most spellcasters tend to be poor combatants without their magic, and are often focused down by foes.

Unless otherwise specified, a Spellcaster cannot be Mindless.

Path

A Spellcaster must choose one of four paths of magic: Arcane, Divine, Natural or Sorcery. This will inform their list of spells, their skill training and their spellcasting attribute.

Path Casting Attribute Skill Training
Arcane Education Arcana
Divine Charisma Religion
Natural Foresight Nature
Sorcery Foresight Choice

Attributes

The Spellcaster's casting attribute is determined by their path, as covered above. Aside from that, every Spellcaster worries about dodging physical attacks

Level Casting AGI
0 +2 +1 +1 +0 +0 -1
1 +2 +2 +1 +1 +0 -1
2 +2 +2 +2 +1 +1 -1
3 +2 +2 +2 +2 +1 +0
4 +3 +3 +2 +2 +1 +0
5 +4 +4 +2 +2 +1 +0
6 +5 +4 +3 +2 +1 +0
7 +6 +5 +3 +2 +1 +0

†Distribute as you see fit

Stamina

Spellcasters are not physically robust. When you select this class for your foe, it gains five stamina, plus five times its Level.

Training

The Spellcaster will be trained in one skill, according to its Path. If its Path is Sorcery, the Spellcaster may choose any one skill to be Trained in. In addition, the Spellcaster will be Trained in Perception, and in one additional skill of its choice. A foe with this class will have training ranks in any Trained skill equal to their level.

The foe's Spellcasting Skill will be that chosen by its Path, or its Level plus its Foresight if its Path is Sorcery.

Defences

Add the foe's Level to its Agility defence, and also to its Spellcasting Attriubte defence.

Basic Attacks

Melee: Skill vs. Agility

  • Hit: 2[W] + Body.
  • Miss: 1[W] + Body.

Ranged: Spellcasting Skill vs. Agility

  • Hit: 2d4 + Spellcasting Attribute. Damage dice increases to 3d4 at Level 3, and to 4d4 at Level 5.
  • Miss: 1d4 + Spellcasting Attribute.

Features

For each level the Spellcaster has attained, choose two spells from its spell list. The chosen spells must be equal or less in Power to the level at which they were chosen. For example, a Level 3 Spellcaster would select two Power 1 spells, two Power 2 spells and two Power 3 spells. A Level 0 Spellcaster may choose one Power 1 spell.

Spellcasters must spend Power to cast their spells. For most foes, their maximum Power is equal to their Level. A Level 0 Spellcaster has a maximum Power of 1, instead of 0. The Spellcaster recovers one Power automatically at the start of each of its turns.

In addition, for every level the Spellcaster has attained, choose one of the following features.

Augmented Spells
Elemental Resistance
Increased Power
Increased Cantrip Damage
More Spells
Quick Shift
Sharp Senses
Stealth Expert
