Intent: Irish red ale.

Grain Bill

  • 2250g 2-row barley malt.
  • 450g Munich malt.
  • 450g Caramel malt (60L).

Non-Grain Ingredients

  • 30g East Kent Goldings hops
  • 11.5g SafAle US-05

Process

Sterilized everything the night before. Mashed at 66°C for 60 minutes. Rested the mash for 30 minutes. Added 300g of brown sugar and started the boil. Added the hops 30 minutes after the boil started, boiled for another 30 minutes. Chilled to room temperature, and transferred to the carboy.

Specific Gravity before fermenting: 1.037
Taste test: A bit lacking in volume (but that's because I favour porters and stouts). Sweet, hoppy and warm.
