Tree Step

This spell has two related effects, and the caster chooses the effect that they desire when they Cast the Spell.

The caster may choose to mark the target tree as a destination tree. Make a Spellcasting skill check against a TN of 17.

• Success: The tree is marked as a destination tree.
• Failure: The tree is marked as a destination tree, but any other tree the caster has ever marked loses their status as a destination tree.

The caster may instead choose to use the tree as a gateway. They choose any destination tree that they have marked, and make a Spellcasting skill check against a TN of 17.

• Success: A gateway opens from the touched tree to the destination tree. When the spell ends, the target tree becomes marked as a destination tree.
• Failure: A gateway opens from the touched tree to the destination tree. When the spell ends, the destination tree is no longer marked as such.

The gateway will remain open for only thirty seconds, allowing up to ten beings to cross the gate before it collapses.
