====== Gain a Level ====== **Time Required**: 1 hour.\\ **Skill**: None. When your character has accumulated sufficient experience points, you can Gain a Level. The amount of experience points required for each level is given in the [[legacy:characters:level|Experience Table]]. Whenever you gain a level, you do the following, in any order: === Improve your Attributes === Distribute six points as you see fit among your six Attribute scores. No single attribute may gain more than three points per level gained. === Train a Skill === Choose any one skill, and add one training rank to it. However, there is a limit to how many training ranks you can place in a skill, based on your level. This limit is given in the Skill Cap column of the [[legacy:characters:level|Experience Table]]. === Add a Class Level === Choose a class in which your current level is below 10, or any Prestige Class that you do not yet have and for which you qualify. Increase your level in that class. The class will usually grant you a benefit for increasing its level. At the very least, you will gain an additional Recovery die and some Stamina. If you gain a new class in this manner, you gain access to its pool of traits. === Add a Trait === Choose a trait from any of your available trait pools. If the trait comes from a Class Intermediate trait pool, you must be at least level 6 //in that class// to select it. If the trait comes from a Background Intermediate trait pool, you must be at least level 6 //in any class// to select it. (Ancestries never have Intermediate trait pools.)
