====== Character Improvement ======

Your character, even when fully fleshed out, is not a finished product sitting on a shelf. They are a dynamic being, constantly evolving through their experiences. As they navigate the world of your story, they'll encounter challenges, forge relationships, and learn from their triumphs and failures. This ongoing journey is what makes them truly compelling.

Your character's achievements are rewarded with milestones, tangible proof of their growth. These milestones are the currency for acquiring powerful upgrades, allowing you to shape your character's development.

===== Upgrades =====

Milestones are spent to purchase upgrades.  Each upgrade will improve your character in a specific area.  Over the course of a single level, you can only purchase each upgrade once, but when you have gained all five upgrades, you go up a level, and can buy them again.

However, the cost to purchase an upgrade, in milestones, goes up over time.  **You must spend milestones equal to your character's level plus four in order to select an upgrade**.  Each upgrade takes about an hour of reflection to perfect, and you can only gain one upgrade per 24-hour period.

==== Attributes ====

These are the fundamental building blocks of your character:  [[Agility]], [[Body]], [[Charisma]], [[Dexterity]], [[Education]] and [[Foresight]].  When you select this upgrade, choose two of your attributes.  The attributes chosen cannot currently have a value higher than your level.  Then increase the values of your chosen attributes by +1 each.

If you upgrade your Body, increase your maximum stamina by four plus your level, and increase your recoveries by one.

==== Class Features ====

Choose one feature from your class.  If you have a Hybrid class, you may choose from that class as well.  If your class //is// the Hybrid, you can choose from either of your Hybrid classes.  However, the feature that you choose cannot be higher than your own level.

==== General Features ====

Choose one [[..:features:general|General feature]] and add it to your character.
These features are fairly universal;  they can be taken by most ancestries and classes, and they typically do not have any level limits.  There are certain rare exceptions, but these are clearly indicated.

==== Physical Training ====

Your character will become more able to avoid and recover from damage over time.  When you select this upgrade, choose one of the following:
  * Increase your maximum stamina by ten plus your Body;
  * Increase your maximum stamina by five plus your Body, and your maximum recoveries by one.

==== Skill Training ====

You can train and improve many of your skills.  Choose five different skills.  The skills that are chosen cannot have a current training rank higher than your level.  Increase the training level of those skills by one.

If you choose to upgrade Lore or Performance, you may elect to add another specialty instead of adding a skill rank.  Because of this, you can elect to upgrade Lore or Performance twice, in order to both add a rank and to add another specialty.

You can train skills that you currently have untrained in exactly the same manner.  Simply choose an untrained skill as one of your five, and put its first training value bonus in it.  The skill is now trained.
